The Band Toto Asia

Line-up

The album's third, Turn Back, marked the return to the traditional sextet arrangement of previous albums and was a stronger, more consistent effort with an edge that was more pronounced than Hydra. The more experimental sound of Turn Back was a reflection of the maturation in the group. The drummer Bobby Kimball's increasing proficiency was evident in the vocals of Joseph Williams, who had become more confident and mature. Keyboardist David Paich's work was sharper, more intricate and less cloying than on previous efforts.

After touring to promote the album, the band recorded a live concert in Amsterdam which was released as a set of two CDs entitled Falling In Between Live on Eagle Records. The group released a new studio album a few months after and embarked on a world tour help promote the album. In this time, keyboardist Greg Phillinganes filled in for Paich, and bassist David Hungate left the group to spend more time with his family.
